The History of Val de Poix
Since 1903, our story begins in the charming village of Poix, with the birth of the “PIETTE” family business as a hotelier. Our family's imprint on this establishment began in 1928, when our great-grandparents, Aurélie and Omer Piette, erected the building that is our pride and joy today.
From 1928 to 1963, the hotel was a modest 6-room establishment, until our grandfather, Jean, took over the reins in 1963. Following his death in 1981, our parents, Charles and Nadine PIETTE, decided to continue the adventure together. Charles, an entrepreneur at heart, juggled his role as administrator with the management of our hotel, while Nadine, a hairdresser by profession, devoted herself entirely to the establishment, renamed “La Grignote”.
The years went by and our hotel grew. In 1988, a brasserie and 8 new rooms were added, followed by the acquisition and conversion of two neighboring houses into 10 new rooms. In 1998, our establishment reinvented itself under the name “Hotel Le Val de Poix”, while retaining the “La Grignote” brasserie.
In 2000, our father, Charles, decided to invest heavily in modernizing the hotel to keep pace with growing international competition. State-of-the-art infrastructures were added, including a footbridge leading to a private parking lot and a redesigned brasserie, renamed “Au comme chez nous”.
The following years were marked by constant expansion and renovation. In 2003, 18 new rooms were built along the river, bringing the total to 42. In 2010, the original rooms were completely renovated, combining contemporary design with ultimate comfort.
In 2014, a new era began with the handover to the fourth generation of the Piette family, represented by Aude and Lorraine. These young entrepreneurs decided to reinvent the restaurant business with “Les Gamines”, a bistronomy featuring local and organic produce.
Under their guidance, the rooms have also been redesigned to offer an unrivalled stay experience, with fiber optics, state-of-the-art televisions and “cocoon” decor signed by a renowned local artist.
In 2017, an elevator linked all floors of the facility, and new projects saw the light of day, including a co-working space and seminars focusing on sustainable development.
Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic forced the hotel to close for 13 months in 2023. Aude and Lorraine decided to pass the torch to their father, while remaining involved in the hotel's activities.
Today, in 2024, a new page is turned with the announcement of exciting new developments: a wellness center focused on meditation and the creation of 14 ecolodges for health prevention enthusiasts. Our story continues, driven by our commitment to offering our customers a unique and memorable experience in the heart of the Ardennes.
